Acting on Opportunity the Hidden Key to Success

Opportunities are only useful if they are acted upon. This is probably the single most overlooked success key that the majority of small business owners fail at. Opportunities in business happen often in business but they don’t happen all the time. They come in waves. They ebb and flow just like markets and when they happen the only way you will benefit from them is if you seize the opportunity and act. Does this mean that you will have to take a chance? Absolutely. Will it always pay off? Of course not but the one guarantee that anyone can make when it comes to opportunities is that it’s guaranteed that it certainly won’t work out for you if you don’t act upon it. Inaction often is a great way to mediocrity and failure in business.

Here’s a good example from one of my clients. As the owner of several lead generation sites, I had one particular site in Waco that was generating quite a substantial number of leads. I was working with a company that quite simply didn’t recognize the value and opportunity in what I as providing. When it came time to put their money where my leads were, they dropped the ball. They failed to see the value of the amount of business I could and was providing them for the long haul. So, I was forced to look elsewhere.

After several calls I happened upon a company that was in the same industry but that didn’t have a web presence at all. Sometimes when a company doesn’t have a web presence and they have been around awhile, it can be difficult to get them to see the value and the opportunity that someone like me can bring to the table. Well, the owner was not only receptive of the idea, but he over performed with providing his service. He recognized the opportunity I was giving him and he went out of his way to prove that he was the guy to handle it. Fast forward six months and he has expanded his business to be one of the fastest growing landscaping companies in Waco, Texas. Continue reading

Local Business Owners – 3 Things You Will Need to Improve Your Biz in the Future

The internet is always changing and as we progress technologically, the way people find your business is going to change. The one thing you can be certain of is that more and more people are going to be using technology to find your business, but that does not mean more and more people will necessarily find your business just because you have an online presence. No, you’ve got to roll with the times too.

The good news is you don’t have to be technically savvy to understand what the how people are going to select your business out of your local market over your competitors. No, all you need is to do is to look at how people are finding businesses now and what direction they are pointing.

Let’s make this real simple. The first thing to know is that the internet (Google in particular) has replaced the yellow pages. No longer do people pick up that big book and flip through thousands of pages to get to your listing. Now they just go on their phone, tablet, laptop, or computer. That’s it. So, you need to be found there first, and then you need to be able to stick out enough so that people will choose you.

I’m not talking about being different I’m talking about the age old way people choose most businesses…trust. Word of mouth is always the best and reviews are second best. If you look at the trend of what is happening you will realize that most people are more likely to read reviews about a company first before they select them. This replaces the trust of word of mouth. If a lot of people review you favorably then they are more likely to use your service or products.

The second thing is Simplicity. How easy is it to contact you and/or hire your company. The simpler the better. As people get busier and busier, they have less and less time. Make it simple and they will come. Make your systems, your website, and your overall experience from beginning to end as simple and pain-free as possible and you will win over the majority of the customers in your marketplace.

The third thing is Knowledge and Authority. I know that’s two things but they hand in hand. The drawback of making things simple is that most people distrust things that are too easy. This is human nature. We’ve all heard the saying that you get what you pay for. Well, that’s part of it, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be competitive with our prices. Price is still a big consideration but Knowledge and Authority trumps price. If you educate your customer either through the pre-sale, your service, your product, or through your follow-up communications, you must educate your client so that they walk away feeling that they have gained more knowledge through hiring you. Even if that knowledge is that knowledge that you know what you are talking about and that you are an authority in your area.

Delivering the right knowledge and establishing that you are an authority in your particular niche will stave off any buyers remorse and if done correctly will bring you more business through word of mouth. People love to show off their knowledge about a subject and/or love to brag about a deal they got or an expert that they have done business with. It’s a form of bragging and security at its deepest level. Even when you are giving someone good solid advice that they need to hear or give them the name of someone you know that can help them, you are doing it from a place of deep-seeded need for security and acknowledgement. I know, not you right? Well think about it. How does it make you feel to help someone. Great right. Well how does it make you feel to have someone come to YOU for answers AND then you ALSO help them with the knowledge and/or resources you share? Even better isn’t it.

Take these things to heart and look for ways to implement them into your business and you will be ahead of the curve. Find a way to make it simple and easy for your customers to give you reviews. Find ways to make the delivery of your product and services simple, easy, and smooth. Then, find ways to educate and pass your knowledge on to your customers about your particular area of expertise. Be an authority on your company, your product, your niche, your local market and you will see great returns in your business.

Learn, Implement, and Grow. Good luck.

Results Up Front – The New Paradigm

The internet is a wonderfully powerful thing and it is changing the way we are doing business. I’m not talking about the latest marketing platforms like Facebook ads, or Instagram. Rather, I am talking about what we need to do to actually get people to buy our products or services nowadays. Let’s face it, people have technologically induced ADHD and distrust. Short attention spans and an overexposure to information and BS.

People are less trusting and that poses a problem for businesses, especially new ones. How do you stand out against bigger companies that have 200 reviews on Angie’s list and 5,000 followers on their facebook fan pages? Well, the answer is simple and it actually comes from door to door vacuum cleaner salesman.

Back in the day these vacuum cleaner guys would come to your door with an overpriced yet good quality vacuum that you couldn’t get in the store. Then they would dump a bunch of dirt on your floor right in front of you. Before you could panic they would turn that sucker on and suck up the dirt so effectively that the spot where the dirt was would be cleaner than the rest of the existing carpet. Then they would empty the bag in the trash and then run it on a different spot after which they would open the bag and show the homeowner how dirty their carpet really is.

From there it would just be a matter of linking the dirt to all sorts of horrible outcomes that the homeowner might encounter and getting them to sign on the line that is dotted for hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Why did this approach work over and over again…RESULTS and PROOF!

That’s it. Nowadays people are hit with nonstop advertisements. Literally, we are being asked to spend our money on something from the time we get up to the time we go to bed. Advertisements are in our emails, on our phones, on the radio, the tv, text messages, Facebook posts, Tweets, restaurant menus, cabs, trains, planes, bathrooms…frigging everywhere and that means people have all learned to tune it out and for good reason. They would go crazy and broke really fast taking action on all the calls to action they are exposed to.

This is great news for you. All you have to do is find a way to deliver your product or service to your prospective clients up front. Maybe not the whole thing but some part of it that will benefit them and prove what you have works. Obviously you can’t do this with every product/service but you can provide them with some sort of value up front.

In my business we provide Web Marketing services to local businesses. Now if you know anything about SEO or web marketing then you know that these poor business owners get hit with solicitations to improve their websites on a daily basis. Many of them also have spent thousands and thousands on their websites and online advertising only to get nothing in return. They are jaded and over pitched. This is great for us because we can actually do what we say and give them clients before we ever even introduce ourselves. After a few thousand in new business most business owners can’t wait to meet the person who is responsible. Not all are happy but at least the smart ones are.

So find a way to give them results up front and you will no doubt enjoy a growing business/career.

SNAP Habits

What are SNAP Habits? Better yet, what is the SNAP Method? Quite simply it is the thing that’s going to help you change your life…finally.

SNAP is an acronym that stands for Spontaneous Neural Association Practice. Despite the complex sounding name the procedure is really quite simple and very effective. It is a principle which has many applications when it comes to your overall health, wealth, and happiness. You can use it with exercise, visualizations, accelerated learning, skill development and habit formation.
